SUGAR/CEPEA: High supply keeps prices down

Cepea, 06/23/2026 – White crystal sugar quotations continue to fall in the São Paulo market, amid low liquidity. According to Cepea researchers, the recent rains have reduced the pace of sugarcane harvesting, but the volume of sugar available has been sufficient to maintain the downward movement, as buyers remain withdrawn.

On the supply side, data from Mapa indicated a significant decrease of 25% in sugar production in the Center-South in the second half of May compared to the same period of the previous year, to 2.19 million tons, following the reduction in crushing in the period. Cepea researchers point out that this result reflects both the above-average rainfall in part of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul and the greater direction of sugarcane for ethanol production.
